St. Paul Christian educator gets $5,000 trip

Bethlehem Lutheran’s Kim Hylton wins African safari in drawing

After marketing a Vacation Bible School curriculum on an African safari theme, a Lutheran publisher decided to hold a drawing to give away a real-life safari. The lucky winner of Concordia Publishing House’s randomly-selected prize is Kim Hylton of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Hylton, who’s been Director of Christian Outreach for Bethlehem Lutheran Church (LCMS) in St. Paul for the past three years, was informed in late January that she had won a $5,000 safari for two. The congregation’s staff person, who’s never won anything before, was stunned with the news.

Hylton told Metro Lutheran, “My husband, Tyler, and I are pretty excited. We have to use the prize by September. We’ll probably go in August.” She and her husband will work with a travel agent to decide exactly where to visit.

She explained, “I had three choices — a trip to Disney World, a cash prize, or the African safari. I decided, ‘How often in your life do you get to go to Africa?’ So the decision was pretty easy.”

Concordia is the church publisher for the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Around 1,200 entries were received for the prize which went to Hylton.
