Gustavus, Swedish Institute to partner on Twin Cities building project
Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, Minnesota, has had a long-standing relationship with the American Swedish Institute (ASI) over the years, but that relationship is becoming more formalized.
On June 15, the ASI announced the design for the Nelson Cultural Center. Construction of the center is slated to begin in early 2011. The building will be built adjacent to the Turnblad Mansion, the ASI’s museum.
“Gustavus and the American Swedish Institute are looking at this as a partnership, rather than a landlord-tenant relationship,” -Jack Ohle
“Gustavus and the American Swedish Institute are looking at this as a partnership, rather than a landlord-tenant relationship,” said Jack Ohle, president of Gustavus.
Ohle sees the relationship between Gustavus and the ASI as mutually beneficial. “Now Gustavus will have a permanent place in the Twin Cities,” he told Metro Lutheran. “We will also be part of a joint advisory board to recommend programs that will benefit both the college and ASI,” he added.
Having a presence in the center will allow Gustavus to host prospective students, alumni, and community leaders. “We’re excited about this partnership,” Ohle said. “It has been great working with Bruce Karstadt,” he added. Karstadt is ASI’s president and chief executive officer.
