Bremer Foundation awards LSS for homeless youth work

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota’s The StreetWorks Collaborative was named one of six community organizations in Hennepin and Ramsey counties receiving grants totaling $4 million from the Otto Bremer Foundation to serve homeless youth. The StreetWorks Collaborative will use the grant to hire six additional outreach workers for homeless youth.

There are 2,500 homeless youth, age 21 and younger, statewide on any given night, and 1,375 in the seven-county metropolitan area, according to a Wilder Research report. Currently there are 80 shelter beds for homeless youth in the state.

“We believe this community can work together to end youth homelessness,” said William Lipschultz, an Otto Bremer Foundation trustee.
