Alternative Christmas Gift Market to be held at Christ Memorial, Plymouth

Want to send a gift that will be appreciated by the recipient, as well as others around the world? Send an alternative Christmas gift … from the upcoming Alternative Christmas Gift Market.

An Alternative Christmas Gift Market offers a wide variety of gifts that are tax-deductible and support global humanitarian and environmental causes. Such markets are sponsored by Alternative Gifts International, a nonprofit organization that offers donors the option to donate charitable gifts through carefully chosen nonprofit agencies in the name of their relatives, friends, and associates.

The Alternative Christmas Gift Market in the Plymouth area will be held at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 13501 Sunset Trail, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., November 10 and 11. Co-sponsored by St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, this is the 20th year the market has been held at Christ Memorial.

“The Alternative Gift Market will offer a wide [array] of meaningful, life-giving gifts that can change the world,” explained Kathy Weber, market coordinator. “Shoppers can provide training of healthcare workers for treatment of childhood cancer in Tanzania or supply clean water for rural communities in Bolivia,” she said.

Christ Memorial Lutheran Church is located at the intersection of Plymouth Road and Sunset Trail, about 3/4 mile north of Ridgedale Mall on the Plymouth Road exit from 394.

According to Weber, shoppers will be able to browse through display booths featuring these one-of-a-kind gifts that help those in need around the world. Volunteers will help shoppers make their choices.

There is no charge for admission. A festive holiday atmosphere with food, music, and entertainment will make it fun for the whole family.

In addition to the alternative gifts available, shoppers can purchase hand-crafted items from all over the world, thus helping impoverished craftspeople provide food, shelter, and schooling for their families.
