This ten-year-old now has a new friend in the Czech Republic.
Sunday school students at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Minnesota, marked Rally Day on September 9 by launching helium balloons with postcards identifying the students who sent them.
Ten-year-old Mark Schlot-terback’s balloon landed in Sezemice, Czech Republic, in Central Europe. His card came back to the 5th grader with a letter from the finder, Jan Kratky, a university psychology student. Kratky wrote, “Let this [letter] be your prize [for farthest-traveling balloon] for I know the competition’s probably over now.” A Czech coin was enclosed with the letter.
