Longtime college art professor’s work now on display

After 38 years on the faculty of the Minneapolis school, Augsburg College Art Professor Norman Holen plans to retire in June.
Since coming to Augsburg in 1964, Holen has taught sculpture, ceramics and drawing to hundreds of art students.
Holen’s wife, Ilene, told Metro Lutheran that her husband developed a variety of splints and tools for students who were physically challenged so that they could successfully complete their art projects.
Prior to coming to Augsburg, Holen taught at Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, and Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota.
A retrospective exhibit featuring Holen’s art is on display at Augsburg through April 18.
A sample of the artist’s work, a terra cotta piece, is pictured here.
