Confirmation Day for a 98 year old Lutheran!

Alfie Thompson finally received First Communion

Alfie Thompson took Lutheran confirmation instruction as a youth. But circumstances kept her from actually being confirmed.
Recently, the resident of Crest View’s Royce Place, an assisted living apartment facility in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, experienced a deterioration in her health. The 98-year-old was moved into a hospice program.
When Lutheran chaplain Ken Siess visited with Thomp-son, he learned she had been baptized and instructed in Lutheran faith, but never formally confirmed — and had never received Holy Com-munion! When asked if she’d like to be confirmed, she replied, “Oh, yes! That would be wonderful!”
Alfie received Confirmation and Eucharist on Palm Sunday, with admiring family members looking on. On Good Friday she told Siess she felt “quite a bit stronger than I was,” adding, “My appetite has even come back a little.”
She became 99 on April 2.
