Lutheran Vespers speaker cycles across Midwest.
An accident in Alexandria, Minnesota, didn’t slow him down.
The Rev. Walt Wangerin Jr., speaker for Lutheran Vespers, the radio ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), cycled through Minneapolis on September 4, riding a crest of enthusiasm from welcoming crowds at rallies staged across Wisconsin, in support of the broadcasts.
A Twin Cities event was held at Nativity Lutheran Church, St. Anthony Village. But five days later, riding near Alexandria, Minnesota, Wangerin fell from his bike and fractured his left hip. After recuperation in a local hospital, he continued the tour via motor home.
The eight-state tour took him from Indiana to as far as Grand Forks, North Dakota. The purpose was to build awareness of the broadcasts and strengthen the listener and support base. (For broadcast times, turn to page 22 in the October print edition.)
