She's 93, and she still plays the organ

Esther Olson still plays Luther Memorial's organ on occasion

She’s been on the bench at Luther Memorial Church for 46 years.

Esther Olson marked her 93rd birthday on August 26 and stepped down as organist at Luther Memorial Church, South St. Paul, Minnesota, on September 1. She’d been playing for worship at Luther Memorial for 46 years, with rarely a missed Sunday. Because she lives in St. Paul, the journey to church is 15 miles one way, but she got there, even during legendary Minnesota blizzards.
In appreciation for her years of faithful service on the organ bench, members of Luther Memorial saluted Esther at a dinner on September 19. Over 80 people showed up. (At $24 a plate, nobody made a casual decision to attend.)
Esther continues as an active member of the congregation. And, she continues to have a key to the organ console in her possession. She’ll play for an occasional service, but not on an every-Sunday basis.
