Event will benefit Metro Lutheran newspaper.

Noted Lutheran theologian and churchman, Dr. Martin Marty, will speak at a Twin Cities hymn festival on May 14. “Lift Every Voice and Sing!” a festival of Lutheran hymns from around the world will be celebrated at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Central’s cantor, Mark Sedio, will accompany the event on the congregation’s massive pipe organ. A mass choir, composed of singers from smaller urban Lutheran congregations in Minneapolis and St. Paul, along with singers from choirs representing congregations where Metro Lutheran board members belong, will accompany the congregation.
Marty, whose new biography “Martin Luther,” appeared in bookstores in February, will be available to sign copies of the book during a reception to follow the service.
Lutheran congregations are encouraged to promote the festival among their members. A suggested contribution of $10 is invited from each participant, although those prepared to donate more are urged to consider doing so.
Central Lutheran Church, Marty and Sedio are all donating their services for the music event.
