Trinity Riverside, Fairview share chaplaincy position

Alem Hagos

Alem Hagos

Trinity Lutheran on Riverside Ave., Minneapolis, has struck up a ministry partnership with nearby Fairview Hospital. Together, they’re sharing the ministry of the Rev. Alem Hagos, a native of Ethiopia who spent several years living in Sweden.
Hagos speaks seven languages. His two school-aged children are fluent in English, Swedish and Amharic.
Trinity’s decision to launch an outreach ministry and call an immigrant pastor was rooted in an extensive study of the surrounding community and a recommitment to neighborhood ministry. The congregation has been offering an after-school tutoring program which nearby immigrant families have embraced. The parish also maintains strong relationships with immigrant-based organizations in Cedar-Riverside, the community adjacent to Augsburg College, where Trinity’s members worship.
Trinity’s mission partner, Nokomis Heights Lutheran, south Minneapolis, plans to contribute $25,000 toward support of the new Fairview/Trinity shared ministry.
