“Ben Larson loved to serve Jesus,” said Luther Seminary student Javen Swanson after a memorial service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA), Minneapolis, for the Wartburg Seminary student and victim of the earthquake in Haiti. With his wife and cousin, both also Wartburg Seminary students, Larson was in Haiti working with the Lutheran Church in Haiti. Larson’s wife and cousin survived the disaster, and have returned to Minnesota.
Members of at least two Minnesota Lutheran churches were in Haiti at the time of the earthquake. Mission teams from Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA), Moorhead, Minnesota, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church (LCMS), Prior Lake, Minnesota, were present in Haiti at the time of the earthquake. They were there ministering to the needs of people even before the natural disaster struck. The mission teams returned safely to the home bases once they were able to safely leave, after having attended to the needs of Haitian refugees.
