Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) is holding its 2010 annual gathering at Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, Minnesota, October 3-6. LCMC is an association of Lutheran congregations, most of which are former Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregations that have changed affiliation since 2001.
The conference theme is “Celebrate! Jesus Christ: The Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever.” Keynote speakers include the Rev. Efrem Smith, senior pastor of Sanctuary Covenant Church, Minneapolis; Johan Hinderlie, executive director of Mt. Carmel Ministries; and the Rev. Challa Baro, director of the Union of Oromo Evangelical Churches, a worldwide association of Oromo-language Ethiopians.
About a month before the opening of the gathering, LCMC administrative coordinator Sharon MacFadyen, announced that Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Morris, Minnesota, became the 500th congregation to join the association.
In addition, the Rev. Mark Vander Tuig was recently appointed service coordinator (staff director). He succeeds the Rev. Bill Sullivan, Canton, Michigan.
