LCMS Campus Ministry offers fall agenda
Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) Campus Ministry, in partnership with Can-Do Missions and the Acts 1:8 Mission Society, will offer a five-day servant-outreach gathering for students and others January 2-7, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas.
“We’re calling it Texas Underground,” says Jon Jensen, LCMS Campus Ministry executive director. “Our hope is to capture the spirit of so-called ‘underground’ churches around the world whose members throughout history have risked skepticism and criticism, among other things, to put their Christian faith into action. Texas Underground will offer students, ministry leaders, and faculty and staff members opportunities to roll up their sleeves and reach out to others through acts of service and faith-sharing.”
Also new from LCMS Campus Ministry for the 2010-11 academic year is a nationally-sponsored BikeWalkRun-Athon event to raise awareness and support for LCMS campus ministries across the country. “It’s not a single event,” says Jensen. “Ministries are invited to hold their BikeWalkRun-Athons anytime between October 1 and November 15. Our job will be to manage registration and donations for each one; the job of local ministries will be to host great local events, build community and goodwill — and have some fun.”
