Metro Lutheran announces annual dinner keynote speaker
A variety of people have been keynote speaker at Metro Lutheran’s annual dinner, according to the Rev. Mike Edwins, Metro Lutheran board member and chair of the annual dinner committee. “We have had theologians and ethicists like Martin Marty and Walter Wangerin, Jr.,” Edwins pointed out. “We have also had noted area journalists like Cathy Wurzer and Jim Klobuchar.
“This year we have an exciting, long-time local media personality, who has worked for about 25 years in Twin Cities radio and television,” Edwins went on. So who is it?
“We have asked Kevyn Burger, a well-known news journalist and anchor, and she has agreed.” Edwins said Burger is known for creative and humorous, yet poignant, stories. “She will be a familiar face and voice for those attending the dinner,” Edwins said.
The Metro Lutheran Annual Dinner will be held October 23, 2011, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, at 50th and Knox in Minneapolis. The reception begins at 4:30 p.m., and dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.
Burger currently is the communications director at the Perpich Center for Arts Education, Golden Valley, Minnesota, a position that combines her “love of creativity, children, and the arts,” as Burger says.
An award winning broadcaster, Burger has been a news reporter, investigative journalist, and anchor for KSTP-TV, WCCO-TV, and KTCA, Channel 2. She also created and hosted “Buy Smart!” which ran for two seasons on HGTV. Currently she is a regular essayist on TPT’s “Almanac” and does a weekly independent podcast.
Burger is the winner of numerous awards, including three regional Emmys. Most recently she hosted “The Kevyn Burger Show” on FM107.1, where she won three national Gracie Awards from American Women in Radio and Television.
Burger says she is an avid biker, a breast cancer survivor, and the mother of three. She is a member of Mount Olivet.
