Among the 2011 awardees was Marilyn Sharpe, Metro Lutheran columnist and author of For Heaven’s Sake: Parenting Preschoolers Faithfully. She was honored for her volunteer commitments to Mount Olivet Lutheran Church (ELCA), Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, Trinity First Lutheran Church (LCMS), and El Milagro Lutheran Church (ELCA).
Mary Uhrich, senior vice president for communications for Thrivent Financial, presented the award to Sharpe. She said that people like Sharpe “help build our communities so that others can live more generously.”
Event hosts were Julie Nelson, Diana Pierce, and Mike Pomeranz, anchors at KARE 11. Nelson said the evening’s honorees are “ordinary men and women who, by extraordinary efforts, have made our community a better place.”
Each honoree received a commemorative statue and a donation was made to an organization of their choice.
