Metro Lutheran sets date for annual Hymn Festival

Metro Lutheran will hold its annual Hymn Festival at 4 p.m., on May 20, 2012, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 3045 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, according to the Rev. Michael Edwins, Metro Lutheran board member and chair of its annual dinner committee.
“We are very pleased to be back at Mount Olive Lutheran Church,” said Edwins. “We have now held several wonderful events there and look forward to returning.” Mount Olive cantor David Cherwien will again be in charge of music selection, and Susan Palo Cherwien will provide spoken reflections between hymns. “A combination of familiar and new hymns will be included,” Edwins noted.
The hymn festival tradition began decades ago at Mount Olive when Paul Manz was cantor there. Each year on Passion Sunday, the congregation would be overflowing to participate in this rich tradition, said Edwins.
