Can Christians be civil?

Metro Lutheran photo: Bob Hulteen

The Rev. Canon Peg Chemberlin (standing), executive director, Minnesota Council of Churches, and Pastor Leith Anderson (left), retired pastor of Wooddale Church, Minnetonka, Minnesota, addressed the topic “How Can Our Religious Institutions and Leaders Reduce Partisan Animosity and Arrogance?” at the Fourth Annual Celebration of the John Brandl Forum at the Humphrey School for Public Affairs in February. Growth and Justice’s Dane Smith (center) and Center of the American Experiment’s Kim Crockett spent much of the time sparring and reinterpreting each other’s questions as Anderson, an evangelical, and Chemberlin, a Mainline Protestant, attempted to find areas of agreement and common projects.
