Carthage connection to China deepens
Five Carthage College students spent July in China teaching English to students and teachers in Huairou. The students’ trip is the latest example of Carthage’s growing connection with China and the Huairou Education Bureau.
In 2011, Carthage President F. Gregory Campbell signed an agreement on cultural and educational exchange with the Huairou Education Bureau, solidifying a decade-old relationship.
“In the lifetimes of current Carthage students, the relationship of the United States and China will become more and more significant,” Campbell explained. “It’s important for us to prepare our students to prosper in such a world.”
Since signing the agreement, Carthage students, faculty and administrators have both traveled to and hosted visitors from Huairou.
