Luther Sem names Laura Thelander as campus pastor
The Rev. Laura J. Thelander will be joining Luther Seminary as seminary pastor on February 1, 2013. She graduated from Luther Seminary in 1997 and received a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2010. Thelander has served ELCA congregations in Minnesota and New Jersey.
According to sources at the seminary, Thelander is multi-talented with a unique blend of worship leadership, pastoral care, theological acumen, and pastoral experience. She is passionate about the mission of educating leaders for Christian communities. In her application letter, Thelander wrote “I have long sensed a particular call to serve within a seminary community and participate in the spiritual formation of leaders for the church and its ongoing engagement with the world.”
As campus pastor, Thelander will be responsible for guiding and leading the community’s worship and helping develop spiritual formation at Luther Seminary. She will be available to students, faculty, and staff as a pastor, a coach, and a caring colleague.
She replaces interim campus pastor, the Rev. Paul Harrington, vice president of Metro Lutheran’s board of directors. Harrington has served as interim for about two years.
