Local choral ensemble goes for 10
The Singers have big plans for the 2013-14 choral season. After all, it isn’t every year that a choir can celebrate its tenth anniversary.
This 44-voice professional chorus is led by Matthew Culloton, its founding artistic director. He explains that, in addition to its five subscription programs, additional focus will be given to composers through an international call-for-scores. Furthermore, the newly formed Singers’ Anniversary Chorus, a group of Singers’ alum and community volunteers will be performing at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis in February.
The opening concert, “Shining Night: An Anniversary Celebration,” will be presented on October 25 and 26, 2013. The program will include works by Stephen Paulus, Dominick Argento, Morten Lauridsen, and Benjamin Britten.
“What Sweeter Music: Christmas with The Singers” is, this year, a collection of works by Minnesota’s favorite composers, past and present, on December 7, 8, and 15. Dale Warland’s “Nativity Suite,” and world premiere works by Matthew Culloton and Linda Kachelmeier will be surrounded with favorite Christmas carols from around the globe.
