VocalEssence announces new hire

Tesfa Wondemagegnehu

After a global search, Minnesota-based choral organization VocalEssence announced that Tesfa Wondemagegnehu would be its new assistant artistic director. In his new role, he will help the nonprofit expand its artistic vision, provide programmatic growth opportunities, and spread its reach nationally.
“We are fortunate and honored to have Tesfa on board with VocalEssence,” said choir founder and director Philip Brunelle. “Our Ensemble Singers responded enthusiastically when he came to Minneapolis for his final audition earlier this year.”
Brunelle told a group of local donors that Wondemagegnehu would participate in all aspects of the organization “from community engagement and conducting to fundraising and marketing and scheduling.”
“The assistant artistic director position offers me a chance to collaborate with some of the finest choral musicians in the country, while still able to connect with students in the VocalEssence, ¡Cantaré! and WITNESS outreach programs,” said Wondemagegnehu.
Wondemagegnehu previously was the director of choral activities at Freedom High School (FHS) in Orlando, Florida. While there he won five local, regional and national teaching awards, including teacher of the year for Orange County.
