ELCA Presiding Bishop to appear in TC in January
The Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Eaton, presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), will preach at three services at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1900 7th Street NW, New Brighton, Minnesota, on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Eaton was elected to the office of presiding bishop at the 2013 Churchwide assembly in Pittsburgh.
Eaton will preach as a part of Christ the King’s Local Mission Partner Sunday. The event celebrates the congregation’s partnerships with other ELCA churches in the Greater Twin Cities metro area to help the congregation embrace, enrich, and welcome God’s diversity.
“We are a church that is overwhelmingly European in a culture that is increasingly pluralistic. We need to welcome the gifts of those who come from different places, that is a conversation we need to have as a church,” Eaton told the church shortly after her election.
Eaton will also participate in Luther Seminary’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day events January 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. These events will be held in Luther’s Olson Campus Center, 1490 Fulham Street, in St. Paul.
Bishop Eaton will spend time with local multicultural church leaders and seminary students during her two-day visit to the Twin Cities.
